Communications Minister Obaidul Quader today said the upgrading work of the Jatrabari-Kanchpur stretch of Dhaka- Chittagong highway to eight-lane would be
complete in next September as the work is going on in full swing.
“This part will be the first eight-lane in the highway network in the country,” he told journalists while visiting the Jatrabari point to see for himself the progress of the work.
Aimed at easing traffic congestion on the nine-kilometre stretch, the project is estimated to cost Taka 120 crore, while Taka 60 crore would be spent for widening the five-kilometre under the first package, Quader said.
The minister visited Kutubkhali, Rayerbagh, Shanirakhra and Signboard areas and expressed satisfaction at the progress of the widening work.
During the visit, Superintendent Engineer of Dhaka Circle of Roads and Highways, Mohammad Shahabuddin and other officials accompanied the minister.
