Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student front of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, vandalised at least 50 shops and damaged more than 20 vehicles in Sylhet city on Saturday night after one of their fellows was stabbed to death.
Local people said a group of some four miscreants stabbed a JCD activist, Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 23, at Darshan Deuri at Ambarkhana in the city at around 8:00pm on Saturday.
Locals took Mizan to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where the physicians declared him dead, the sources said.
Mizan was 3rd among six sons of Zinu Miah, a resident of Shubhechchha Residential Area at Ambarkhana in the city.
As the news of Mizan’s death spread, JCD activists vandalised more than 50 business establishments in the Housing Estate Area, Jalalabad Residential Area and Darshan Deuri at around 10:00pm.
They also vandalised some 20 vehicles, including truck, microbus and private car, by putting barricade on Sylhet-Sunamganj Road in the area.
The JCD activists blamed Aftab Hossain Khan, local leader of Juba League, the ruling Awami League-backed youth organisation, for killing Mizan.
Aftab, however, rejected the allegation.
