BKSP top medals table
The BRB Cables 26th National Age Group Swimming Championship concluded with 23 new national records at the National Swimming Complex at Mirpur on Saturday.
Jewel Ahmed and Nazma Khatun, both from Bangladesh Ansar, finished as the top gold winners in male and female group with ten and nine gold medals respectively while BKSP finished as the team champions with 45 gold, 50 silver and 25 bonze medals.
Bangladesh Ansar finished as runners up with 45 gold, 25 silver and 21 bronze medals.
Jewel Ahmed with 10 gold medals and Nazma Khatun with nine, became individual champion in boys and girls group respectively. Ariful Islam of BKSP also claimed nine gold medals but no new records.
Jewel claimed two new national records on the closing day in 100 metre butterfly (new 01.01:60 minutes; old 01:01.81 minutes) and in 1500 metre freestyle (new 18:40.8 minutes; old 19:13.40 minutes). On the other hand, Nazma set one more new national record on the concluding day in 400 metre freestyle (new 05:32.46 minutes; old 05:39.67 minutes).
The other new records were written on the last day, Nagib Khandokar of Lalon Shah Swimming Club in 50 meter freestyle (new 00:25.41 minutes; old 00:25.70 minutes), Palash Chowdhury of BKSP in 200 metre breaststroke (new 02:38.23 minutes; old 02:41.72 minutes) and Shikha Khatun of BKSP in 50 meter freestyle (new 02:38.23 minutes; old 02:41.72 minutes).
Mentionable that Jewel Ahmed was placed in the Bangladesh contingent for the 1st Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in next month for his outstanding result in the age group championship. He was luckily picked up by the federation when Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) asked for one more swimmer according to the offer from Games authority.
On the other hand, three new records were written in the diving events of the championship with all three gone to BKSP.
Sarwar Hossain set record in 5 metre platform diving (314.4 points), Sadi M Mohsin in one metre spring board diving (384.75 points) and Anik Islam in three metre spring board diving (422.22 points).
Later, the president of Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) and chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Jahir Uddin Ahmed distributed prizes among the winners.
