Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said that the nation is facing a critical time centering the forthcoming national election in the country and called for re-election of Awami League. “The time is critical as the election is round the corner. This election will decide where Bangladesh is going to go in future,” he told an interactive programme with “successful professionals and future leaders” of the country in Dhaka on Friday.
In his opening remarks, Joy said the terrorists and militants have started raising their heads again ahead of the election. They have once again become active thinking that opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would come to power.
He said terrorism and fanaticism would be unleashed in the country if BNP returns to power. In such a situation, the nation would plunge into a crisis and all achievements made during the tenure of the present government would go in vain.
Joy was joined, among others, by cricketer Sakib Al Hasan, musician Maksudul Haque and economist Abul Barakat at the programme titled “Vision 2021: Achievements of the Past 5 Years and Promises of the Next 5 Years” held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center by “Suchinta Foundation.”
“We are only half-done at this time; we cannot stop midway. We want to take forward the unfinished revolution this government had launched after coming to power.”
He lashed out at opposition BNP for what he said carrying out propaganda against Awami League and added that time has come now for the ruling party to give BNP a befitting reply. He said Awami League hasn’t failed to fulfill people’s hopes for which they mandated this party in the last election.
Joy said that there hasn’t been any change in opposition BNP. They talk about a lot of things but never say where they took the country, he said adding that it is BNP that patronized terrorism, fanaticism and corruption everywhere. “BNP does its politics in concert with those who opposed Bangladesh’s independence.
Referring to corruption, Sajeeb Wazed Joy said: “the country had been champion in corruption five years ago; but now corruption has significantly declined in the country.”
He said no government in the past could do as much development work as the present government during the last five years. In this connection, he pointed out that the AL government made significant achievement in turning Bangladesh into a digital nation with
distribution of computers even to the remote areas.
During an exchange of views with newsmen at the Dhanmondi office of Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina on Thursday, Sajeeb Wazed Joy said: “Watch out for a surprise over the next three days; we have adopted a strategy to tackle the propaganda of the opposition and highlight the achievements of the government.”
