Joyraz Sheikh’s unbeaten century helped Bangladesh Under-19 team secure a draw in the first youth Test against hosts Sri Lanka Under-19 team in Dambulla on Friday.
Joyraz hammered undefeated 100 runs off 167 balls with 11 fours as Bangladesh youth side reached 289-8 in 83 overs before two capatain agreed for a draw.Bangladesh were trailing by 138 runs with 8 wickets in hand at the start of day three before Joyraz consolidated their innings through his matured batting.
Joyraz, who resumed the innings without opening his account, added 66 runs with Mehedy Hasan (41) to revive the innings after losing overnight partner Munim Shariar earlier.
Together they were looking solid at the wicket before rash of blood led to Mehedy’s dismissal as slow left-arm chinaman bowler Ravindu Tilekratne fooled him while he tried to play him down the wicket only to be stumped.
Sri Lanka tried to put some pressure on the tourists by picking wickets at regular interval before Joyraz along with Nihaduzzaman (29) put on 71 runs for the seventh wicket.
