Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team clinched the seven-match one-day series against their South African rivals after an eight run win in their fifth match to take an unassailable 4-1 lead in Chittagong on Saturday. Having won the toss Bangladesh decided to bat first and posted a total of 257 runs which did not seem adequate before medium-pacer Mohammad Saifuddin picked up a five-for to give his side the game and the series.
The most sensational over of the match occurred in the 48th over of the chase when Saifuddin picked up three wickets.
Visitors needed 33 runs from 18 balls with five wickets in hand and more importantly set batsman Abdu Galiem was in the crease on 56 when Saif started the over.
Saif conceded two singles in his first two bowls to Bongumusa Sibonelo and Galiem and dismissed the former with a catch of Saleh Ahmed Shawon in the third ball. Galiem changed end during the shot, smashed a boundary in the next ball before he was caught by Nahid in the fifth ball.
Saif trapped Lesego Senokwane leg-before in the final bowl of the over to make South Africa 231-8.
Ziyad Abraham struck a six in the next over but it was never enough for the visitors to reach home.
Opener Rivaldo Moonsamy scored 63 while Peter Willem, Tony de Zorzei and Abdu Galiem scored 50, 41 and 60 runs respectively for the defending Under-19 World champions.
Earlier, Bangladesh opener Pinak Ghosh scored 76 and Mehedi Hasan Miraz got 63 batting at number 4 to help their side amass 257 runs that ultimately became a winning score.
For South Africa, Abraham was the pick of the bowlers by picking up 6 wickets for 58 runs.
