Senior treasury bench lawmakers in Parliament on Sunday came down heavily on Opposition Leader Begum Khaleda Zia for not accepting the Prime Minister’s invitation to dialogue and sticking to her hartal programme putting country into uncertainty again.
The lawmakers accused Khaleda of being responsible for the killing of people both before and during hartal in the name of movement and thinking of her own protection only instead of people’s safety and protection.
They said a decision has to be taken who will rule this country – razakars or the pro-liberation forces.
Rising on a point of order, JSD lawmaker Moinuddin Khan Badal initiated the debate which was later participated by Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Awami League lawmakers Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Suranjit Sengupta, Tofail Ahmed and Amir Hossain Amu, and Mujibul Haque Chunnu of Jatiya Party (Ershad).
“This so-called movement (of opposition) does not follow any rules…their movement is on sacrificing all rules,” Badal said accusing Khaleda of killing people both before and during hartal period.
He mentioned that six people were killed on Saturday and five others today (Sunday) and said “she (Khaleda) is fully conscious of her own protection, not of the people.”
The JSD lawmaker said this fight is not a fight for vote, but it is the fight for existence of the pro-liberation forces. “This is not 2013. This is 1971 revisited. It should be resolved now and for all time whether we can have compromise with such persons who side with war criminals.”
Echoing Badal, Sheikh Selim said it is the fight for their existence and they have no alternative other than win this fight. “We’ll surely win in this war. We’ll drive them out from the country and put them in Pakistan. We’ve to decide whether Razakars will rule the country or it will be run by the pro-liberation forces.”
He said they can not go beyond the Constitution and discussions can not be held by imposing conditions.
