Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations, scheduled to be held on November 10-12, have been postponed after BNP-led 18-party Alliance on Friday called a 72-hour countrywide hartal beginning on Sunday.
“We will announce a fresh date for the examinations Saturday. It is unfortunate that we are going to reschedule the examinations date again,” Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid told The Independent on Friday.
Earlier, the JSC and the JDC examinations, scheduled for November 4, were postponed because of enforcement of 60-hour nationwide hartal during November 4-6.
Nahid said he was “sad, anxious and angry” because of the opposition’s plan for a 72-hour shutdown.
“The Opposition has announced a senseless and irresponsible programme to destroy the future of our new generation. No conscious person can announce such an anti-education programme in any civilised country,” the education minister remarked.
The nation will not forgive them (BNP) for calling the hartal, the education minister said, adding, “I am aggrieved. I cannot even think how these politicians will run the country. They want to grab power by any means.”
Expressing his deep concern, the minister said, the BNP-led 18-party Alliance will have to assume responsibility for disrupting the JSC and JDC examinations.
“We can’t let the students face uncertainty and insecurity,” Nahid said, adding, “We don’t want any hartal. The guardians of the students should raise their voice against the hartal.”
The minister also urged the opposition leaders not to call any hartal during the JSC and JDC examinations further, taking into consideration the future of the young generation.
A total of 1,902,746 students are taking part in the JSC and JDC examinations under nine educational boards. Of them, a total of 1,587,313 students are taking part in the JSC examinations under eight general boards, while 315,433 students appearing under the Madrassah board.
