Jahangirnagar University students under the banner of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance on Tuesday brought out a procession on the campus in protest at allowing MPhil and PhDs researchers to cast vote and compete the forthcoming election to the university central student’s union.
The procession began on the premises of new arts faculty at about 11:00am and ended in front of the administrative building in a rally.
Among others, the alliance’s president Koly Mahmud and its publication secretary Didar Mahmud addressed the rally.
Koly Mahmud said, ‘If election commissioner did not cancel the decision, we would enforce tougher programme.’
Later, they went to meet the vice-chancellor Professor Anwar Hossain who misbehaved with them, they alleged.
However, the VC denied the allegations.
VC Anwar told New Age, ‘I haven’t misbehaved with them, rather asked them to know about the matter from chief election commissioner.’
The JACSU election has been scheduled to be held on January 2, 2014. The voting will continue from 9:00am to 4:00pm without any break.
Election campaign will remain stopped from 12:00 midnight on December 31 until the final results of the polls were published.
