More than one female student of Jahangirnagar University have accused a university teacher of sexually harassing them. The university authorities were informed of the accusations against accounting and information system department lecturer AKM Anisuzzaman on Saturday. ‘That teacher has been calling the students guardians to settle the issue. He is also putting pressure on the students,’ a guardian, who lodged a complaint with the university’s anti-sexual harassment cell, told the news agency.
Professor Rashid Harun, a member of the preventive cell, refused to comment, saying the matter was being investigated.
When contacted, Anisuzzaman claimed that he was hearing about the allegations for the first time.
‘A lot of things happen at the university level. There is no need to fuss over it,’ he said.
He dismissed the students’ claim and said, ‘If there are complains, all you need to do is wait for a few days; you will get to know all about it.’
An incident of rape in the country’s only residential university about fifteen years ago had triggered a fiery movement.
