Jahangirnagar University teachers under the banner of General Teachers Forum on Tuesday announced demonstrations demanding resignation of vice-chancellor Professor Anwar Hossain.
Teachers announced the fresh programme including protest programme today and on August 1 from 12:00 to 2:00pm in front of administrative building. The agitation programme also included wearing black badges on August 3.
Assistant Professor Kamrul Ahsan of philosophy department announced the agitation programme on Tuesday at about 3:00pm in front of the university administrative building on behalf of the platform.
‘Our next fresh programme will be made public through a press conference on upcoming Staurday,’ Kamrul said.
Meanwhile, the regular syndicate meeting was adjourned in the face of teachers’ pre-declared demonstration programme.
Syndicate members including Professor Hanif Ali, Professor Kamrul Ahsan Tito, associate professor Tariqul Islam and Lutfar Rahman addressed the protest.
They alleged that university authority did not inform them about the syndicate meeting though VC Anwar Hossain denied their allegation.
At about 11:00am, at a press conference, JU VC Professor Anwar condemned the teachers protest and urged them to quit from movement.
VC also requested them to save the campus and look into the students’ interest.
However, as part of the pre-declared programme, JU teachers on yesterday observed all out strike programme in the campus demanding VC’s resignation.
As a result, no regular classes and examination of the university were held.
JUTA has been demanding resignation of VC Professor Anwar Hossain since April 7 for not expelling JU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Rajib Ahmed Rasel for his alleged assault on a teacher.
