Uncertainty looms over the forthcoming honors admission test of Jahangirnagar University under the session 2013-14 is to be held in December because of the teachers’ movement demanding vice-chancellor’s resignation. Meanwhile, JU teachers’ association made an offer to vice-chancellor Professor Anwar Hossina to shift the responsibility of honors 1st year admission test to pro-vice chancellor (education) Professor MA Matin as VC Anwar Hossain was declared persona non-grata on the campus, earlier.
JUTA general secretary Professor Sharif Uddin on Thursday at a press briefing said, ‘We have already offered the VC Professor Hossain to hand over the charges of the admission tests to pro-VC Professor MA Matin by a written statement but the VC did not respond to the demand.’
‘If VC hands over the responsibilities of the admission test to the pro-VC, there will be no violation of university ordinance 1973,’ Professor Sharif added also.
He said, ‘The VC has adopted some strategies to run his regime, which put the campus into uncertainty.’
In JUTA last general meeting, leaders of the platform urged the authorities to conduct the admission tests under the supervision of Pro-VC (Education), neither they will not participate in the intake process under incumbent VC Anwar.
Besides, the central admission test committee made decisions regarding admission tests in the last meeting with the absence of most of the deans and chairmen.
As a result, the applicants are going to suffer session jam before taking admission.
However, the confrontational situation between the VC and the agitating teachers has brought the academic activities to a halt.
Meanwhile, the VC recently announced that the JUCSU polls would be held on December 6 this year.
He vowed to hand over his responsibility to a new VC who would come through a VC panel polls by a new senate.
Sources informed that JU has long been facing a deep crisis over the resignation of the VC.
A large section of the teachers have been demanding the VC’s resignation for the last few months.
Mentionable, the admission tests for first year honors of the Jahangirnagar University under the session 2013-14 sessions has been rescheduled on December 17 instead of November 02.
