The Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association donated Tk 4.80 lakh on Thursday for the children of some of the Rana Plaza collapse victims.
JUTA president Professor Ajit Kumar Majumder and general secretary Professor Sharif Uddin handed over the cheques of Tk 60,000 to eight children each, in the presence the other organisation executives at a programme in the JU cafeteria lounge.
The children, who lost their parents in the Rana Plaza collapse, received the cheques of Dhaka Bank in presence of its Savar branch manager, Selim Ahmed Milon.
The money has been kept in the bank under a five-year fixed deposit scheme and the victims are capable of drawing the interest of the money every three months.
The JUTA secretary, Professor Sharif Uddin, urged their guardians concerned to use the money for their study purpose so that they would become the worthy citizens of the nation.
Professor AA Mamun, Professor Shapon Kumar, Professor Shubash Datta, Professor Sayed Hafizur Rahman and Masum Sahriar, among others, were present at the programme.
