After the women’s kabaddi of the eighth Bangladesh Games was put into shame on Tuesday, the men’s kabaddi event followed suit on Friday after a clash between
Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Police on Friday.
The scuffle started from the sixth minute onward in the second half when Army were leading 17-12 in the semi-final.
Officials of Bangladesh Army claimed that the players of Bangladesh Police started throwing punches at Army player Abu Saleh Musa, one of the country’s greatest raiders, when Musa entered the opposition half.
Musa, along with his teammates fought back during which the crowd also joined in creating chaos at the venue.
Several players from both sides were injured in the brawl with a wounded Musa being admitted to
the Combined Military Hospital.
The incident took place at around 10:30am and the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation officials were unable to decide the fate of the impending semi-final till Friday night.
Abdul Qaiyum Sikder, member secretary of the BKF’s sub-committee of security, expressed his disappointment over the episode before confirming that he tendered his resignation on Tuesday after his suggestions went unheeded.
‘Our plan regarding security of the venue was not wanted, even after Tuesday’s unsavoury incident involving the women kabaddi athletes. Hence, I resigned from my post on the sub-committee on Tuesday,’ said Qaiyum.
