The Nagarik Committee candidate for the mayoral post in the Sylhet City Corporation polls, Badar Uddin Ahmad Kamran, on Tuesday promised to turn Sylhet into a city of peace,
communal harmony and tourism if he is elected.
He also pledged to complete the development works that started during his tenure.
The 14-party alliance-backed candidate made the pledge in a press conference at his main election camp at Teli Haor in the city at noon, where he announced his 20-point election manifesto.
Putting importance on taking development projects in accordance with the 20-year master plan of Sylhet city, Kamran said all necessary steps would be taken to provide better facilities and services to the citizen.
The main points of Kamran’s manifesto are establishing a technical university in the city, a cyber city, urban healthcare centre at each of the 21 wards, developing the existing hawker markets into multi-storey markets in order to rehabilitate the street vendors and free the footpath from their possession and improvement of Sarada Smriti Bhaban as a digital cultural centre to offer the cultural activists a better cope of practice.
