From the two women-oriented film releases of this week, Kangna Ranaut’s Queen seems to have outdone Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla starrer Gulaab Gang at the box-office, reports Hindustan Times.
Gulaab Gang is about Rajjo (Madhuri Dixit) who runs an ashram of sorts where women armed with axes and sickles and dressed in pink nine yards, mete out the evil and seek out justice for one and all, while making hand-ground spices, hand-woven baskets and hand-woven sarees. On the other hand, Queen is about a small town Indian girl who decides to go on her honeymoon alone. Both the women centric films hit the theatres last Friday. Interestingly all eyes seem to be on Viacom 18 Motion Pictures & Phantom Films’ Queen as the film received an unprecedented response from the industry who has gone on to tout the film as the entertainer of the year, crowning the lead Kangana Ranaut as Bollywood’s newest ‘Queen Bee’.
According to Koimoi, Queen has now collected a domestic total of Rs 9.55 crores at the Box Office, whereas Gulaab Gang stands at a domestic total of Rs 8.85 crore at the Box Office.
Few from the Bollywood film industry who have watched Queen, directed by Vikas Bahl, have been praising the actress for her performance ever since, creating a pandemonium of sorts on the social media front, with unanimous applause coming in from all quarters.
Says Shekhar Kapoor, ‘Queen has a fresh golden heart, at the centre of which lies a fluid, consistent and convincing performance by Kangana Raut. Watch this one.’
Says opinion maker Shobhaa De, ‘Kangana : Superhero of Queen! Loved her. Loved the movie. Didn’t miss a hero’.
