Loko Natyadal’s popular production Kanjush got huge appreciation while participating at the prestigious Mondial du Theatre held in Monaco in Europe, claims Liaquat Ali Lucky the director of the play. The troupe took part in the 15th Monaco festival where 24 theatre troupes from 24 countries
across the globe participated.
The troupe returned to the country on August 30 after staging Kanjush in the festival organised by the French speaking country that took place from August 19 to August 28.
‘We staged the play on August 26 and 27 at the theatre des varieties in Monaco principality. It was a great experience for all of us to perform at the festival. It is one of the biggest and oldest theatre festivals where troupes from across the world participate’, Lucky told New Age on Wednesday.
Claiming that their show was a successful one, Lucky said, ‘the festival was teeming with theatre activists and analysts. After every show there was a discussion session on the production’.
‘Most of the audience praised our production and personally told me that despite the play being in Bangla, our production could communicate it well to the audience’, said a happy Lucky.
As Kanjush is an adaptation of the Miser written by the famous French playwright Moliere’s, audience of Monaca could easily enjoyed the show.
‘One of them told me that my miser does not look miser enough’, Lucky said laughingly.
Adapted by Tarique Anam Khan, Konjush has the record of largest number of shows in the country. The play has been staged well over 600 times.
‘The recipe for this success perhaps lies in the comedy punched into the play through the local Dhakaiya dialect and the hilarious central character Haider Ali Khan that the audience find greatly amusing’, said Lucky.
It is the second time that Loko Natyadal participated in the Monaco festival. In the thirteenth edition of the festival held in 2001, the troupe staged its production Tapaswi O Tarangini, written and directed by Budhhadeb Dasgupta and Liaquat Ali Lucky.
