Bangla Academy honoured researcher professor Karunamoy Goswamy and eminent singer Papiya Sarwar with ‘Rabindra Award 2013’ in a programme celebrating the 152nd birth anniversary of the
Nobel laureate poet on Wednesday.
Professor Zillur Rahman Siddique and Bangla Academy director general Shamsuzzaman Khan handed over certificates, crests and token money to the awardees at the Syed Waliullah Conference Centre at the academy.
The day-long celebration programme also featured discussion and cultural programmes.
The day’s event began with welcome speech delivered by Shamsuzzaman Khan, the director general of the academy.
Eminent writers and educationists like Hasan Azizul Haq and professor Zillur Rahman Siddique briefly analysed different aspects and impacts of Tagore’s works in the 21st century.
With perfect articulation, Ashraf Mahmud enthralled the audience by singing the songs Bipulo tarango, Bisho sathe juge, Ami tomai joto shuniye chhilem gan and Jethai thake sobar adham.
Mohiuzzaman rendered timeless songs including Akash bhora surjo tara and Amar ei pothe jawar ki anando at the end of the function.
