The late artiste Khaled Khan’s recitation album Megh Balika was launched on his first death anniversary observation programme on Saturday at the Bengal Shilpalaya in Dhanmondi. The album, which was recorded by Khaled Khan 20 years back, has been produced by Bengal Audio in response to the request of Khaled Khan’s family. Noted artistes also presented music and recitation at the programme where thespian Aly Zaker was present as the chief guest.
Khaled Khan’s widow Mita Haque, Bengal Shilpalaya’s director Luva Nahid Chowdhury, singer Sharmin Sathi Islam, recitation artiste Hasan Arif, musicians Bappa Majumder and Abidur Rahman Jewel were also present.
Khaled Khan’s recitation album, Megh Balika, features 18 recitations of which seven are duet with Shyama Hai. Bappa Majumder has composed music for the album two decades ago when he was not a famous musician.
The artistes in the album present romantic poems including Goswami’s Meghobalikar Jonyo Rupkotha and Se Jodi Tomake, Purnendu Patri’s Aynar Samne, Tomar Kachhey and Emon Kichhu Dukkho Achhey, Sunil Gangopaddhay’s Ki Chao Amar Kachhey, Subhash Mukhopaddhay’s Chokhey Chokh Rakho and Nirmalendu Goon’s Tumi Chole Jachchho.
‘The album will be a great gift for those who love Juboraj [Khaled’s nickname]. He was an admirably versatile artiste- actor, director and singer’, said Aly Zaker.
Terming Khaled Khan as very a good singer, Zaker further said that his songs should have been recorded.
‘It was one of my great memories to have worked with Khaled Khan,’ Bappa said.
Recitation artiste Hasan Arif at the programme recited Khaled Khan’s favourite poems such Tagore’s Amar Matha Nato Kore Dao and Nishfal Kamona, Sudhindranath Dutta’s Utpakhi, Humayun Azad’s Ami Sambhabata Khub Chhato Kichhur Janya Mara Jabo and few others. Nazrul Sangeet singer Sharmin Sathi Islam, whose voice Khaled admired, presented Nazrul song Shunya E Buke Pakhi Mor.
The programme ended with a chorus presentation of Tagore’s song Amar Mukti Aloy Aloy. Mita Haque, Laisa Liza, Sharmin Sathi Islam, Jannati Ferdousi, Elora Ahmed, Mita Sharma and Shaoki Jahan joined the chorus.
Khaled Khan died on December 20 in 2013 after suffering from progressive motor neuron disease for about 12 years.
