Opposition leader Khaleda Zia has said BNP will not wage a movement if the government creates “equal opportunities for all” by restoration of the non-party caretaker government (CG) provision in the Constitution. Khaleda said this on Friday while exchanging Eid greetings with diplomats, eminent personalities and her partymen at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here.
“You, the government, still have adequate time. If you love the people, then place the CG Bill in Parliament ahead of the next general poll to resolve the prevailing political feud,” she said. “Whatever be the result, we will accept it if the election is held under a non-party election time management,” she added.
The BNP chief said her party believed in development and progress, instead of political unrest and separation.
Khaleda accused the government of misusing state resources and cocking up false and fabricated stories in the name of development. “The countrymen have not seen any welfare and development under the Awami League-led government. There is still time for Awami League to become straightforward by shunning politics of falsehood,” she said. Arguing in favour of the CG, she said free and fair election was not possible under the management of the ruling party.
“The judiciary, public administration and election commission are working in a partisan manner. They are willing to discharge their duties in line with the government’s directives,” she added.
Khaleda alleged that the people of the country were not able to observe fasting and celebrate Eid properly because of the prevailing financial crisis and political instability. “The countrymen are going through a severe crisis due to the government’s failure. The young generation should join their causes with the politics of the nationalist party to re-establish peace, progress and development in the country,” she added.
The opposition leader said she had exchanged Eid greetings with her sons, who were abroad.
Diplomats from as many as 47 countries exchanged Eid greetings with Khaleda.
