BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said, if voted to power, her government will construct the Padma Bridge at Mawa to connect the southern region with the capital.
She also pledged to supply natural gas from the Shahbajpur gas field in Bhola to other parts of the region.
The BNP chief made the pledges at different election rallies in Munshiganj and Barisal.
On her way to the southern divisional district, she also addressed rallies at Louhojang Bazar of Munshiganj, Gournadi, Babuganj and Uzirpur of Barisal and Madaripur, introducing candidates of the BNP-led four-party alliance to the voters and seeking votes for them.
Khaleda had left her cantonment residence at about 9:15am for the one-day tour of Barisal. Party sources said on her way back to the capital, the BNP chief was set to address rallies at Faridpur and Manikganj also.
Apparently pointing to former BNP leader AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury while speaking at the rally in Munshiganj, Khaleda said voters would resist those who left the party.
At the rally at Bangabandhu Udyan in Barisal she said, “Only the BNP-led electoral alliance can solve the problems the nation has been facing for the past two years.”
She urged people to vote for the alliance to ensure development and protect the independence and sovereignty of the country.
Pointing to Awami League, Khaleda said, “A certain party claims that this government is the outcome of its movement. Now, if that party comes to power, there might be further price hike and people would suffer more.”
Pledging to give subsidy in agriculture, control food prices and generate employment for youths and women, the BNP chairperson expressed hope that the four-party alliance would regain power with two-thirds majority.
Thousands of supporters, workers and leaders of the components of the four-party alliance attending the meeting were carrying sheaves of paddy, the BNP electoral symbol.
Khaleda introduced alliance candidates in different constituencies of Barisal–Majibur Rahman Sarwar, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Abul Hossain Khan, Col (retd) Shahjahan, Sharfuddin Santu, Abdus Sobhan, Nurul Islam Manju, Elen Bhutt, Mezbahuddin Farhad and advocate Khandaker Mahbub to the voters and sought vote for them.
She also introduced party candidates Shah Moazzem Hossain and Mizanur Rahman Sinha of Munshiganj constituencies.
