Agro production be increased to control price hike
Khaleda promises stamping out “monga” in northern region

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia during her wayside rallies and public meetings at different northern parts of the country on Thursday said if BNP is voted to power, special measures will be taken for “monga” affected people for alleviation of their poverty and increase in agro products.
“BNP believes in politics of development. Party’s election symbol ’sheaf of paddy’ is the symbol of development. In the last two years of the present caretaker government, country’s overall economy and development activities have been facing serious setback. If we are able to form the next government, BNP will give first priority to increase of agriculture production in order to reduce price hike of essentials and decrease unemployment problem providing subsidy in this sector. Besides, the farmers will get fertiliser and seeds easily,” Begum Zia said this at a public meeting in Thakurgaon District High School play ground yesterday.
She further said special steps will be taken to reduce the hardship of monga-prone areas and stop land erosion by the Jamuna and Tista rivers. To make the mission a success, you (people) can cast your votes in favour of BNP candidates in the upcoming national parliamentary election.
At a public rally in Dinajpur, Khaleda Zia introduced her party candidate Lieutenant General Mahbubur Rahman (retd) for constituency-2 of the district and said the caretaker government was compelled to lift the state of emergency after wasting much time and hatching conspiracy.
She asked the common people of the area to cast their vote freely in favour of BNP nominated candidates as the state of emergency has been withdrawn.
About the activities of the Election Commission, Begum Khaleda Zia said the election commission is playing a controversial role and it is working in favour of a certain political party. It is behaving with BNP like a “step-mother” whereas it is providing all sorts of supports to a certain political party. “If the election commission fails to prove its neutrality, people of the country will not pardon them. I urge the election commission to prove its neutrality through holding a free, fair and credible parliamentary election,” Begum Zia added.
As part of the countrywide election campaigns, BNP Chairperson along with some senior BNP politicians have started visiting different northern districts of the country including Bogra, Dinajpur, Rangpur Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Joypur-hat, Natore, Rajshahi and Chapai-nababganj on Thursday. After completing journey at the areas she will return to capital Dhaka today (Friday).
