Leader of the Opposition and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday said if the demand for holding the next general election under a caretaker government (CG) is ignored the BNP will launch a movement to compel the government to accept it. Urging party activists to get ready for both election and movement, she made it clear that despite the victory of BNP-backed candidates in city corporation elections her party would not deviate an inch from its demand for holding the next general election under a caretaker government.
The former premier said this while elected mayor of the Barisal City Corporation Ahsan Habib Kamal called on her at her Gulshan office on Sunday.
Khaleda Zia alleged that conspiracy was going on to snatch the victory of the BNP-backed candidate in the coming election of the Gazipur City Corporation election.
Terrorists and miscreants have been sent there for intimidating the voters, she added.
About the speech of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Parliament on Saturday, the opposition leader said that there was noting new in PM’s speech as there was no direction there.
She urged the party’s leaders and activists to get ready for the next general election and remain united.
“We got victory in the recent city polls because we remained united. So we have to be united in future also”, she exhorted.
She said that if there had been free and fair city corporation elections, the ruling party-backed candidates would lose their security money.
“In many centres the ruling party supporters were allowed to cast false votes,” she alleged.
