Sports organisers of Khulna have appealed to the Bangladesh Cricket Board for assisting them in hosting at least one match in the upcoming home series against New Zealand at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium. Ali Asgar, the former president of the BCB and lawmaker of the Khulna–2 constituency, said that the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium had been left out of the list to host the Black Caps on lame excuses.
He requested the BCB to rethink their decision as the venue previously hosted Test matches and one-day internationals successfully.
Ajmol Ahmed Tapon, senior vice-president of the Khulna Divisional Sports Association, said that the south-western city would be deprived if it is not allowed to host a single match from the two Test matches, three ODIs and a solitary Twenty20 international.
‘There is no problem in accommodating the players of the Bangladesh and New Zealand national teams as there are four posh residential hotels with all facilities available,’ said Tapon.
The bilateral series is scheduled to start from October 9 with the matches set to be played in Dhaka, Chittagong and new venue Sylhet. The Kiwis will arrive on October 1.
