A civil engineering department student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology committed suicide at a dormitory near the university campus in the Khulna city Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Tanvir Hossain, 22, son of Faridur Rahman of Mirpur 13 in the Dhaka city.
Khanjahan Ali thana police said when Tanvir’s friends came to his room Tuesday morning to call him for his semester final examination, Tanvir did not answer and they found his room locked from inside.
They informed the house-owner of the matter, managed to open the door and found Tanvir’s body hanging from the ceiling fan in his room, the police said.
The police at around 10:00am recovered the body and sent it to the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue.
Khanjahan Ali thana police officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman Khan, told New Age that Tanvir made a phone call to his girl friend at 7:45am on Tuesday and assumed that that Tanvir might have committed suicide after the call out of frustration over their affair.
