The Rapid Action Battalion rescued a bank official from Mirpur area in the capital on Sunday, a day after his kidnapping. RAB also arrested seven people in connection with the kidnapping of Abul Khayer Alok, a BRAC Bank officer. The arrestees are Saddam Hossain, 20, Sajedul Haque, 23, Masudur Rahman, 24, Dipu Khan, 18, Abdullah Al Mamun, 24, Arafat Munshi, 23 and Imran Khan, 21. A RAB official said two of the gang members gave Alok a chocolate to eat in a bus at Mirpur on December 21.
After eating the chocolate, Alok lose consciousness and the gang then kept Alok confined at a house in the area, he added.
The kidnappers demanded Tk 5 lakh from the victim’s elder brother Zakir over phone. Zakir, who informed the RAB about the kidnapping.
As part of a plan, Zakir sent Tk 1,70,000 through the SA Paribahan service. A team of RAB-4 waiting at the SA Paribahan service office at Mirpur section 10 detained two people named Saddam Hossain and Sajedul Haque, when they came to collect the money.
