Abductor held
Police early yesterday rescued the daughter of an Awami League MP who was allegedly abducted on February 19 from her home in Shahbagh in the capital.
Police also arrested alleged kidnapper Ridoy, 24, and his father Zakir Hossain, 55, and mother Beauty Akter, 40.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) Police Mohammad Shahidullah said they rescued the schoolgirl during a special drive at a house at Huzurpara of the city’s Kamrangirchar around 3:30am.
They arrested Ridoy from there.
Following Ridoy’s information, police arrested his parents from the house of Ridoy’s friend in the same area, he said.
Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station Rezaul Karim said on February 19 the lawmaker himself filed an abduction case with Shahbagh Police Station accusing the arrestees and their driver Monir Hossain, 30, after his daughter went missing.
The investigation officer of the case Sub-Inspector Mukter Hossain of Shahbagh Police Station said they suspect Ridoy’s involvement in the Tumpa abduction and murder case of February 14 and his brother Babla’s murder around eight months ago.
Tumpa, a student of class-X of Begum Rahima Adarsha High School in Segunbagicha, was found dead floating in a canal of Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra dam on February 16. On May 31 last year, Babla’s body was found floating in the Kakon river of Narsingdi.
The investigation officer said they would appeal to the court to show Ridoy arrested in the Tumpa and Babla murder cases.
DB yesterday produced the arrestees before a court and sought seven days remand in the lawmaker’s daughter abduction case. The court fixed Thursday for hearing.
