Loko Natyadal (Shiddheshwary) has been invited this year to perform at the prestigious Monaco theatre festival Mondial du Theatre,
which will be held from August 19 to August 28.
The theatre troupe will stage two shows of its famous production Kanjush on August 26 and 27 at the theatre des
varieties in Monaco principality. The play Konjush is an adaptation of The Miser by the famous French playwright Moliere. Popular theatre personality and veteran actor Tarik Anam Khan has adapted the play that has been directed by Liaquat Ali Lucky, the troupe president and the director general of BSA.
The adapted play Konjush has a history of being staged more than 600 times by the troupe. No other play in Bangladesh has seen so many staging.
The recipe for this success perhaps lies in the comedy punched into the play through the local Dhakaiya dialect and the hilarious central character Haider Ali Khan that the audience found greatly amusing.
As a preparation for the Monaco festival, the troupe staged 613th show of the play on Friday at the
National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Secretary of the troupe Shipon informed New Age that most of the set design, costumes, backdrop music and light have been changed for variation.
‘The jury of the Monaco theatre festival sent us an invitation in last February. A 13-member team will set off for Monaco on August 24,’ informed Liaquat Ali Lucky.
It is the second time that Loko Natyadal (Shiddheshwary) has been invited to the festival. In the thirteenth edition of the festival held in 2001, the troupe staged its production Tapaswi O Tarangini, written and directed by Budhhadeb Dasgupta and Liaquat Ali Lucky.
