Lady Gaga was given the key to the city of Taichung during her visit to Taiwan on Sunday.
The 25-year-old pop superstar went to a special welcoming party in Taichung, where she was presented with the honour by Mayor Jason Chu as part of Lady Gaga Day celebrations, which also saw her given a picture she promised she would hang in her home.
She said: “I’ll frame it next to the key, all together, and put it in my home.”
Following the presentation, the ‘Judas’ singer – who had two-tone hair and wore a red trouser suit matched with a leopard print jacket and bag for the event – was treated to a dance by a group of local children.
A delighted Lady Gaga said after the performance: “I will cherish them forever and I will always remember today. I would just like to tell you that you did a beautiful job in that performance. And you are so young and full of life. And you have the whole world in your hands.
“So continue to love each other and the environment. Continue to strengthen your love with God. And you have your whole life ahead of you.”
Lady Gaga performed a free concert on Sunday to 40,000, and speaking in a press conference on Monday, she confessed she was shocked at the turnout.
She said: “I couldn’t believe so many people came. They told me 9,000 would be there. I guess it was something like 40,000 people, so thank you, Taiwan, thank you.
“I often tell my fans and people all over the world when I do interviews that if you haven’t seen me live, you don’t really know anything about me. So I feel finally that Taiwan knows me very intimately now.”
