Some 30 local football coaches and around 200 children will get a chance to learn the game the FC Barcelona way in a three-day long coaching clinic that began in Dhaka on Thursday.
YKK Bangladesh Private Limited, a subsidiary of Japanese multi-national company, YKK Asia Limited, has organised the programme as part of its corporate social responsibility, with the help world’s leading football club Barcelona.
Three coaches of Barcelona Youth Progamme, thorough the ranks of which rose world class footballers like Lionel Messi and Cese Febregas, are now in Dhaka to train the local coaches and children.
‘A three-day programme like this may not be enough for the development of football in Bangladesh. But every single effort will have some kind of impact,’ said Kazi Nabil Ahmed, vice-president of the Bangladesh Football Federation, at a press conference on Thursday.
Enrique Duran Diaz, one of the visiting coaches, said Barcelona is just not a football club, but it is an institution that has involvement in many areas. One of their activities is school coaching programme, which encourages children aged from 10 to 14 to learn football the FC Barcelona way.
If they find any extraordinary talent, the club might even follow the boy and offer him to train at the club. Current Barcelona players Messi, Bojan Krkic and Pedro Rodriguez came through the process and few others like Muniesa, Fontas and Thiago are waiting in the wings to become a future superstar.
Sponsors of the three-day clinic YKK Bangladesh Limited conducted a similar progarmme in Bangladesh in 2008 where the coaches of Italian club Roma attended. The company officials promised to continue the programme in the future.
‘It is important for YKK Bangladesh to contribute and work with the local community. I believe that this event will bring great joy to the children in Bangladesh like we witnessed in 2008. We want to support their growth through this football event,’ said Hiokia Nakamura, the managing director of the company.
Among others, Hiroyuki Aoshima, the South Asian head of the company, spoke at the press conference.
