Lifebuoy Friendship Hospital, a collaboration between Unilever Bangladesh Limited and non-profit social organisation Friendship, has provided medical care to over 657,000 people in remote char areas of Bangladesh, said a press release issued by Unilever Bangladesh on Monday.
Inaugurated in 2001, LFH has organised 416 specialised health camps for the marginalised riverine communities where 16,385 successful life-changing surgeries were done, the release read.
On Monday, British high commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson, UBL chief executive officer and managing director Zaved Akhtar and Friendship executive director Runa Khan visited LFH at Sariakandi in Bogura.
‘For the past 20 years, Unilever’s initiative with Friendship has set an excellent example in transforming communities by meeting their healthcare needs,’ Robert Chatterton Dickson said.
‘Although access to high-quality healthcare services is a fundamental human right, Bangladesh’s distant regions continue to face difficulties. Unilever is committed to making healthcare accessible and affordable for those who need it the most,’ Zaved Akhtar said.
The LFH team comprises doctors, nurses, and other medical staff who offer various services, including gynaecology dentistry, ophthalmology, paediatrics, and general medicine.
In addition to providing treatment, LFH also dispenses free medication to patients and offers.
