Henoara Begum, mother of Limon Hossain, who was shot at by the Rapid Action Battalion in 2011 and had to have his leg amputated, has rejected the final report the police submitted in the case she filed against the battalion. She said that she would file a no-confidence petition with the court on the investigation report.
Limon’s mother demanded a judicial investigation of the battalion’s shooting incident of Limon.
Henoara said that the police were yet to inform her that they had submitted the final report in the case on Tuesday. ‘I will file a no-confidence petition on the investigation report,’ she said.
Limon said that the police had filed two false charge sheets in two cases lodged against him.
The police submitted a false investigation report by concealing the truth to make the battalion seem innocent, he said.
‘My normal life has permanently been ended by the battalion. My hope for a free fair investigation so that the people responsible are brought to justice has also ended,’ Limon said.
Rajapur police subinspector Halim Talukder, also investigation officer of the cases, said that allegations levelled against the battalion were not proved in the investigation as the complainant failed to provide enough information, witness and evidences to substantiate the allegations.
The two charge sheets the police submitted in the two cases that the battalion had filed against Limon and two other investigation reports the police administration made said that he was injured in a gunfight during an anti-crime operation of the battalion, Halim said.
Henoara alleged that six battalion personnel, without caring to verify the identity of his son, shot at him on March 23 when he was taking cows to a grazing field at Jamaddarhat of Rajapur. Limon’s left leg had to be amputated up to the thigh on March 27 in Dhaka.
Henoara on 10 April, 2011 lodged a case of an attempted murder of her son with the Rajapur police against the six battalion personnel.
The police at first refused to register the case against the battalion but later it was registered at order of the court on 26 April and the police secretly submitted the final report in the case at night on August 14.
Nusrat Jahan, senior judicial magistrate of Jhalakathi, received the police report posted a hearing on it for August 30.
The battalion on March 23 filed two cases with the local police against Limon and seven others under the Arms Act and another for obstructing the battalion’s duty, on charge of making attempts at murder and injuring RAB personnel.
The charge sheet in the case filed under the arms act against Limon and seven others submitted on April 24, 2011 and court posted the date for charge framing for September 16 after being deferred for the fourth time.
The police also secretly submitted a charge-sheet against Limon and the same seven people accused on 1 July, 2012 for allegedly obstructing the battalion’s duty that in a case that the battalion filed with the same police station the same day.
The date for hearing on the charge-sheet in this case was posted for September 2.
