The inter-club transfer of players for the upcoming Dhaka Premier League will begin today without much hype or drama, as was the case earlier, with all the star players almost certain of their destination.
Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak was the last among the national players to confirm his side with him moving to Surjo Tarun from Gazi Tank Cricketers.
Razzak was earlier linked with a move to Old DOHS, but the club officials on Friday confirmed they are unable to afford the star spinner. DOHS also gave up their hopes of retaining the services of paceman Rubel Hossain, who is now joining newcomers Prime Doleswar alongside Nazmul Hossain.
Razzak will team up with Junaed Siddique and Sohrawardi Shuvo at Surjo Tarun, who survived a relegation scare last season and initially were unsure of spending money on players this season as well.
DOHS have their only national pool player in out-of-favour Aftab Ahmed with Farhad Reza and Mehrab Hossain being the two other mentionable names of the former champions.
Former skipper Mohammad Ashraful said he is moving to Cricket Coaching School as he has been released by holders Mohammedan, who have as many as five pool players at their disposal.
Mohammedan also released Aftab and Mahmudullah and decided to retain the services of Tamim Iqbal and Faisal Hossain. Sakib al Hasan, who is joining from arch-rivals Abahani, will complete their quota of three pool players.
Abahani released Nazmul Hossain and Robiul Islam and retained Mashrafee bin Murtaza and Imrul Kayes. Mahmudullah filled the void left by Sakib.
Last year’s runners-up Bangladesh Biman will retain the services of Mushfiqur Rahim, Jahirul Islam and Shafiul Islam while Syed Rasel will join up with Shahriar Nafees and Naeem Islam to complete the quota of pool players for Gazi Tanks
Middle-order batsman Roqibul Hassan and paceman Shahadat Hossain will play for Kalabagan KC.
Of the 12 clubs, only Victoria, BKSP and newcomers Orient SC have no pool players at their disposal.
The transfer window will remain open from 2:00pm to 8:00pm.
The Dhaka Premier League is scheduled to begin on December 18, three days after the five-match one-day series against Zimbabwe concludes.
