Residents of both city and rural areas have been facing severe load shedding despite saving of 205MW of electricity on an average after introduction of daylight saving measure from June 19 midnight.
State Minister for Power and Energy Advocate Shamsul Hoque Tuku yesterday told the reporters at his Secretariat Office that the power division had saved 205MW of electricity through the daylight saving measure in the first day after introducing it.
Of the electricity savings, the Power Development Board (PDB) has saved lone 90MW of electricity from Dhaka city, the State Minister informed.
He, however, said that the power division had constituted 20 committees to conduct drive against shopping malls and business establishments who keep their shops and firms after 8pm.
Responding to a question about the news on Use of AC at Secretariat: PM’s Directive Ignored in the New Nation on Sunday issue, the State Minister said that the government officials who were not eligible to use Air Condition (AC) should not use it at their Secretariat office.
Different Ministries in the Secretariat were consuming 2.5MW of electricity daily of which nearly 2MW for running 700 ACs.
The residents of Adabor Ring Road areas have been facing load shedding each alternative hour starting from 10:00am in the morning to 2:00pm up to late night over last couple of days. The electricity supply situations are the same in the other parts of the city.
“If the Government saved electricity through the daylight saving measure why we are facing severe load shedding over last two days from early morning to late night,” a resident of Mirpur questioned.
Residents under DPDC and DESCO have been falling sick due to frequent load shedding from early morning to late night.
The electricity supply situation is worsening over last couple of week in the rural areas, the Rural Electrification Board (REB) sources said.
“The REB has received one-third electricity against the demand,” a senior official of the REB said yesterday.
The supply of electricity has been estimated yesterday as 3750MW against the demand of 4500MW, the PDB control room said.
