A five-day ‘Madhu Mela’ began in the capital on the Bangladesh Small and
Cottage Industries Corporation premises on Sunday.
The Apiculture by
Modern Technology project of BSCIC organised the honey fair to promote beekeeping programme in the country.
There are 20 stalls in the fair, said a press release.
The BSCIC also arranged a workshop during the fair on ‘different techniques of apiculture’ to introduce people to different products of honey.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the fair, industries secretary Md Moinuddin Abdullah said that young generation could earn a huge profit through apiculture with a very little investment.
He also said it was a very good way to earn money as well as to help maintain ecological balance as bees can increase production of fruit and crops by pollination.
BSCIC chairman Shyam Sundor Sikdar said since the inception, BSCIC had trained about 18,000 people in beekeeping and now many other government and non-governmental organisations have also undertaken beekeeping programme and getting success.

Bhuiyan, additional secretary director (development), Ministry of Industries, Md Jahangir Molla, director (project), Patit Pabon Boiddo and the project director, Khondkar Aminuzzaman were also present.
The fair remains open for all from 1:00am to 5:00pm till June 20.
