British-passport holder Pakistani all-rounder Azhar Mahmood joined Brothers Union ahead of their highly anticipated Dhaka Premier League cricket match against Gazi Tank Cricketers at a new ground of BKSP today. Both the teams have won their opening matches of the first round and a win in today’s will be give them an edge in the title race for the league that prompted Gazi Tank to add another foreigner in Sri Lankan Kaushalya Weeraratne to strengthen their team.
Bothers are expected to field three foreign cricketers – Azhar Mahmood, Sri Lankan spinner Angelo Mathews and Sachitra Senanayake – while New Zealand’s Scot Styris and Kaushalya will be representing Gazi Tank.
The match will also inaugurate the BKSP-3 venue that is expected to host the women’s section of the ICC World Twenty20 tournament if the Cox Bazar venue does not get the ICC approval.
Brothers captain Tamim Iqbal, who was once linked to Gazi Tank before the Bangladesh Cricket Board changed the transfer system forcing him to join the Gopibagh outfit, said he was worried about the untested new BKSP venue
‘I have not seen that ground as yet though I played a lot of matches at BKSP,’ said Tamim.
In the other two matches of the day, Prime Bank Cricket Club will face Kalabagan Krira Chakra in Bogra and Victoria Sporting Club will take on Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity at Fatullah.
