All-rounder Mahmudullah put his disappointment of not being able to take Bangladesh home against India in the ICC Twenty20 behind to focus entirely on the forthcoming Dhaka Premier League.
Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim wasted a golden chance to beat the former T20 world champions at Bangalore when they could not fetch required two runs from last three balls and lost the match by a run.
Mahmudullah tried to heal the wound during the two-week break that followed the tournament to fill the players with some much required new gas ahead of the busy domestic season.
‘I think our game against India is a matter of past as far as I am concerned though it is not a game that can be wiped out from our memories easily,’ Mahmudullah told New Age on Tuesday as he got down to business by returning back from vacation to prepare for the domestic season.
‘I am now focusing on the upcoming DPL to prove my worth for Sheikh Jamal and their approach suggest they are having high expectation,’ he said.
‘It’s a challenge to lead a young side as they are prepared to take up the challenge and ready to fight until the last ball,’ said Mahmudullah, who led reigning champions Prime Bank in DPL during its last edition.
Mahmudullah had remained tight lipped after their loss to India and always tried to avoid anything related to that game afterwards.
However, he sounded a different man on Tuesday while opening him up in front of the media and asked loyalty from fans and administrators.
‘Whether we win or fail we need your support all the time,’ said Mahmudullah.
‘We need the support from them who are involved with the Bangladesh team.
‘We always try hard to succeed and we will thrive to achieve higher feat in future.’
Mahmudullah has become the new craze in the country’s cricket circuit after he proved his worth on quite a few occasions by guiding Tigers towards victory.
Mahmudullah’s demand raised quite a few steps in the domestic circuit as he proved himself one of the most responsible players in Tigers camp and earned his fame as a finisher.
That was evident when Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club did not wait a second to pick the elegant all-rounder when they got the opportunity to call an icon before any other team in DPL players’ draft after winning a lottery.
Mahmudullah said he was surprised to be picked as first player among the icons as he was not expected that teams would prefer some other star cricketers ahead of him in the draft.
‘I was surprised to watch my name in the beginning,’ said Mahmudullah.
‘There are few star cricketers in our country as well so naturally any one of them could have been called ahead of me.
‘But in the end it was satisfying as it acknowledges my achievement’.
