First BCB meeting of the new year today
The Bangladesh Cricket Board is likely to bring some major changes on its standing committees today when it holds its first meeting of the year for the board of directors.
The meeting was scheduled to start at 2:00pm at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium; but the BCB later shifted the venue to hotel Radisson duo the present political situation.There are as many as 19 issues are expected to be discussed in the meeting with the reshuffling of standing committees topping the agendas, said Jalal Yunus, the chairman of BCB’s media committee.
Jalal, however, said a lot will depend on BCB president Nazmul Hasan about the change in the committees.
‘It is almost certain that there will be some changes in few committees but I cannot exactly say which they are,’ said Jalal. ‘We left the matter on the president [Nazmul].’
Nazmul had earlier hinted that he will bring a change in cricket operations committee replacing former national captain Akram Khan by someone else as its chairman.
Akram could be compensated with the post of Bangladesh team manager for the upcoming World Cup, a decision which will also be finalised in this meeting.
BCB sources said the name of former national captains Khaled Mahmud and Naimur Rahman are also being discussed as the manager for the World Cup squad.
Mahmud leads the race as Naimur is unlikely to take the job for a longer duration due to his engagement in other affairs.
The World Cup manager must commit himself for at least two months starting immediately, which gives Mahmud an edge over other contenders.
In the meeting BCB can also finalise the name of four stand-by players for the World Cup.
The BCB will also finalise the list of contracted players for the 2015.
A total of 14 players, two up from the previous year, are expected to get the contract for the year.
Left arm spinner Abdur Razzak, pacer Robiul Islam and off spinner Sohag Gazi could be dropped from the contract while Imrul Kayes, Shafiul Islam, Taijul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain and Arafat Sunny could be added to the list.
Among other agendas, the BCB will discuss the four-year long operational plan submitted by Australian Ross Turner and will finalise the team management for the Bangladesh Under-19 team’s tour of Sri Lanka.
