The country has 100.3 males against 100 females, though over 119 males live in the capital at present against 100 females.
There are 71,255 thousand males against 71,064 thousand females in the country, of which 6,460 thousand males elbowing each other in the capital along with 5,415 thousand females, revealed the primary data of the national population census yesterday.
According to the report, the numbers of males are higher mainly in the urban areas than the remote parts, except the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
The census shows the sex ratio has narrowed down significantly in last 10 years.
In Bandarban, the number of males is 201 thousand while 182 thousands are female, in Rangamati 313 thousands male against 283 thousand females and in Khagrachhari 311 thousand males against 297 thousand females, making the sex ratio 110.3, 110.8 and 104.6 respectively.
But in Chittagong, the divisional headquarter of those three districts, the number of males are 13,763 thousands while the females are 14,316 thousands, making the sex ratio 96.1.
A totally different scenario was found in Chandpur as 1,135 thousand males live there, while the number of women is 1,254 thousands.
The average sex ratio gap in Khulna and Rajshahi divisions stands at almost 100 women for 100 men.
