A man allegedly hacked a couple and later committed suicide by handing himself from a ceiling fan in the capital’s Gendaria Thursday morning. Gendaria police subinspector MA Momen said an assailant, MA Mannan, entered the flat of Abul Kalam around 10:00am and started hacking Kalam indiscriminately. As his wife Baby Akhter tried to save him, Mannan also stabbed her in the chest.Later, their son Kamal rushed to their room and caught the assailant and beat him.
Kamal and locals locked the assailant in the flat and rushed the couple to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
However, when they returned home, they found that Mannan had committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in the room.
Police said the incident might have taken place as a result of dispute over money.
Abul Kalam bought the flat of Gendaria’s Companyganj from one local resident, Yusuf, who claimed more money.
The dispute might have resulted in the incident, said SI Momen.
