Paceman Mashrafee bin Murtaza was confident of playing in the upcoming one-day series against Zimbabwe when he joined the preliminary squad for training on Monday.
Mashrafee, who injured his ankle in the first one-dayer against New Zealand, kept his training limited to only running on the opening day of training.
‘I am feeling much better now and did some long running today. If everything goes well then hopefully I will start bowling within a week and play the series,’ Mashrafee told reporters.
Mashrafee, originally nominated as captain for the New Zealand series before being sidelined by injury, urged his team-mates not to get carried away and take Zimbabwe lightly.
‘We had a great win against New Zealand, which obviously created some euphoria, but it is a thing of past now. We don’t have any chance to relax,’ he said.
‘I agree that Zimbabwe are not a better team than New Zealand but in this kind of condition they are a tough opposition. We are fully confident and everybody is on a high especially after their good performances in the National League.
‘Our players are trying to work on their shortcomings. It is definitely a good sign. It also indicated that we have back-up players. If 18 to 20 players can perform together, it is always easier.’
