Match referee Obaidul Haque is all set to receive punishment for failing to communicate his suspension order on Sohrawardi Shuvo for his misconduct during the Dhaka Premier League match between Abahani and Brothers Union. Obaidul suspended Sohrwardi for a match and fined Tk 20,000 but Brothers fielded him in the next game against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, claiming that they were unaware of the decision.
Brothers won the match and qualified for the Super League, but Jamal protested and demanded that the points should be awarded to them as the opponents had fielded a suspended player.
The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis could not resolve the issue and requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to help them overcome the crisis with a directive.
The CCDM, however, had called Obaidul for a hearing on Tuesday and his answers did not satisfy the officials.
CCDM officials complained that Obaidul had drafted the punishment letter addressing Sohrawardi instead of the chairman and that had created the confusion.
‘If you receive a letter addressed to someone it only implies that he has received the copy and we are just informed about it,’ Rakib Haider, cricket secretary of the CCDM, told New Age on Wednesday.
A decision regarding Brothers-Jamal match is expected to be taken today by the disciplinary committee of the BCB, which will determine who will play in the Super League.
