The mayor-elect of Khulna City Corporation, Moniruzzaman Mohi, said he would give top priority to waging a social movement with help of socio-cultural, professional and NGOs, irrespective of political affiliation, for evicting encroachers on all canals.
Without this the nagging water-stagnation in the city would never be addressed, he said.
While talking to New Age Thursday evening, the mayor-elect said it would be his first and foremost duty to fulfill from among his poll pledges.
‘I will pay my attention to providing city dwellers with all civic facilities for better living. If the fund is available in time, I will miss no opportunity to modernise the drainage system, construct new roads and reconstruct damaged ones, eradicate mosquitoes and modernise waste management system.
The mayor-elect said he would take action against corrupt officials and employees departmentally without humiliating them openly as was done before.
Apart from some stray incidents, Moni said the voting was overall satisfactory.
