National selector Minhajul Abedin said on Wednesday that he is still undecided about whether or not to continue on the selection committee after the Bangladesh Cricket Board decided not to make him the new chief selector. The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday appointed Faruk Ahmed as the new chief selector – a post Minhajul had expected to take after serving as a selector in the Akram-led selection panel for the last two years.
The decision angered Minhajul to a great degree, and he even considered quitting his post immediately. However, he withheld the decision at the behest of some of his close friends.
‘I will make the decision tomorrow [Thursday] after talking with the board president,’ Minhajul told waiting reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
‘I personally don’t have any problem with Faruk and we are friends from our playing days,’ he added.
The BCB had been divided over the chief selector issue since the post became vacant after Akram Khan resigned to become a director in the newly-formed BCB executive committee.
It was learned that Minhajul had received verbal assurances from certain quarters among the decision-makers but was deprived of the position at the last moment, when BCB president Nazmul Hasan decided to entrust the responsibility to Faruk.
The BCB on September 27 extended the terms of Minhajul and fellow selector Habibul Bashar to June 30, 2015.
