A half-marathon organised by Big Bangla Run and sponsored by Ifad Group was held in Cox’s Bazar on Friday. The 21.1-kilometre run started from Kalatoli Niribili mosque at 7:00am and ended at the Inani beach point. Mohammad Ruhul Amin, deputy commissioner of Cox’s Bazar inaugurated the marathon as chief guest. Cameroonian Salim Abdul Hajee, a student of Bangladesh Islamic University of Technology won the run and subsequently the first prize of US$ 1000.
Salim took an hour and 29 minutes to complete the run.
1500 runners participated in the event.
Bangladeshi citizens Sujon Mia and Mohammad Nasir finished second and third respectively.
In the women’s run, Japan’s Iri Li Kiko came first after clocking an hour and 58 minutes.
The prize money was same for the women participants.
Bangladesh’s Ratna Mandal Mito and Yamna Talukder attained second and third position respectively.
US$ 700 and 500 were awarded to the second and third-placed finishers respectively.
The top 10 participants from each division also received prizes. All participants who finished the race collected a medal each.
Chairman of Ifad Big Bangla Run, Abidur Rahman Shimu and brand ambassador of Big Bangla Run, filmstar Ferdous were present in the prize-giving ceremony and handed over the prizes among the participants.
