The Ministry of Housing and Public Works on Wednesday decided to form a joint committee to demolishing the listed 321 risky buildings in the Dhaka city.
The committee will be comprised of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha and the Dhaka North City Corporation officials and some experts of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Rajuk official told New Age.
The ministry made the decision while Rajuk and DNCC have long been blaming each other over demolishing the listed 321 risky buildings.
On November 7, 2010, Rajuk took the initiative to identify risky structures after a six-storey building in Kathalbagan area had tilted.
It then found some 321 vulnerable structures in the city and gave the then DCC a list of those buildings.
According to a report of the National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiatives, if an earthquake of the magnitude 7 on the Richter scale takes place near Dhaka, about 72,000 buildings among 3,26,000 will be severely damaged and minimum 70,000 people would die.
