Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq said on Saturday that Bangladeshi openers changed the course of the game altogether in their first Test match at Khulna. Any hope Pakistan had for quick kill after 296 runs first innings lead was dealt in ruthless manner as Tamim and Imrul race to 273-0 on the fourth day to slice through the deficit. They extended their record partnership to 312 on the fifth and final day to put Bangladesh in control and secure the draw.
‘They came with a counterattack and those 273 in 61 overs with the opening partnership was the game changer,’ Misbah told reporters on Saturday.
‘I think that was a quite impressive effort by both openers … they took their chances,’ said Misbah.
‘Two wonderful knocks after fielding so long was surprising for us. I think they kept on going and saved the game for them,’ he said.
Misbah said that the counter attack had a repercussion on their bowlers’ line and length in their second innings.
‘We might have done better but it ends the way it ended. Opposition totally outclassed us and their innings were special. They didn’t give us any chances that we could have grabbed,’ he said.
