A US university teacher, who is the son of Awami League (AL) lawmaker Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, has drowned in sea while holidaying in Thailand. Jalal Alamgir (42), an associate professor of Political Science Department at Boston University in USA, had been on a one-year sabbatical and based in Bangladesh. He was working on a book.
Ashraful Islam, personal assistant of ruling party lawmaker MK Alamgir, told The Independent, “My Sir will leave for Bangkok tonight and will come back with the body by Sunday.” Dhaka University Prof Muntasir Mamun, one of the cousins of the victim, told journalists, “Jalal Alamgir went to Bangkok along with his wife on Friday.” Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her deep sorrow at the news of Jalal’s death.
