BNP Vice Chairman MK Anwar said yesterday the ruling Awami Legue did not give them any offer for the post of Deputy Speaker of the 9 th Jatiya Sangsad.
“They promised to give us deputy speaker. But the post has been allocated to the ruling party’s nominee without the consultation with our party,” he told the journalists while coming out of the maiden session of the house.
Mentioning the role of opposition, the former minister of BNP said they want to play an effective role in the parliament to make it vibrant and make the democratic process active. “We want to play constructive role and cooperate with the government,” he added.
It may be mentioned both Awami League and BNP in their election manifestos proposed to leave the post of deputy speaker for the opposition if elected to power in the parliament elections.
Earlier Advocate Abdul Hamid and Col (Retd) Shaukat Ali were unanimously elected as speaker and deputy speaker respectively of the new Jatiya Sangsad.
