Subachan’s Mohajoner Nao is a musical play written by Shakoor Majid on the life and practices of late folk bard Shah Abdul Karim.
The folk bard Shah Abdul Karim often used the metaphor of a boat (nouka/nao) to refer to a man’s soul, which is given to him for a brief span of time by the Creator (mohajon). This line of thought, also common in Sufi tradition, is present as the cornerstone of folk culture and belief-system.
The play follows this thought and presents the life of Shah Abdul Karim in its light. The play abound in songs, has been presented with vibrant choreography. Young and talented theatre activist-teacher Sudip Chakraborthy is the director of the production.
Amirul Islam Babul, Ahammed Gias, Imtiaz Reza, Imran Hossain, Fazlul Huq, Roksana Tuli and others will act in the play.
A 21-member team of Subachan will fly for Kolkata today.
